Now Hiring: Communications Specialist (Part-Time)

The American Center for Mongolian Studies (ACMS) invites applications for a Part-Time Communications Specialist to join our Ulaanbaatar office.

This 20-hour-per-week position provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of international scholarship, cultural heritage, and public engagement, supporting programs that connect Mongolia with global academic and cultural communities.

The Communications Specialist will play an important role in strengthening ACMS visibility while supporting communications for major institutional initiatives, including international research collaborations, exhibitions, academic programs, field schools, and public events.

Based on performance and organizational needs, this position may be extended to a full-time role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strengthen and promote the ACMS institutional brand and public presence across digital and media platforms
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership and staff to plan and implement communication strategies supporting ACMS programs, projects, and partnerships
  • Coordinate communication timelines and deliverables for multi-partner projects, exhibitions, and academic initiatives
  • Manage and maintain ACMS social media channels, website, newsletters, and YouTube presence
  • Develop engaging content highlighting research, cultural programs, and educational initiatives
  • Prepare, edit, and proofread institutional materials, including newsletters, project reports, grant communications, and donor updates
  • Build and maintain relationships with Mongolian media organizations and communication partners
  • Support outreach and promotion for summer field schools, workshops, conferences, and public lectures
  • Assist with event promotion, documentation, and audience engagement activities
  • Produce and edit multimedia content, including photography, video recordings, and promotional materials
  • Contribute to project documentation and storytelling that demonstrates program impact
  • Support additional outreach and institutional initiatives as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and background in communications, media, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • Excellent Mongolian and English writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Experience managing digital communications and social media platforms professionally, including scheduling programs and management of multiple channels
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across concurrent programs
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international, multicultural environment
  • Experience using Canva or another graphic design program to create social media content and promotional/communications materials
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other website hosting platforms
  • Interest in or experience with academic, cultural heritage, nonprofit, or educational programming is highly desirable
  • Skills in photography, videography, or multimedia editing are a strong advantage
Compensation Compensation and benefits will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and professional background, and are negotiable.
